Open Graph Checker: Preview Social Share Tags

Check a page's Open Graph tags (og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url) and see what is missing before the link is shared on social networks and chat apps.

Our server fetches the public page you enter and returns a summary. Nothing is stored. Last updated

Public http:// or https:// pages only. Our server downloads the page once, returns a summary and keeps nothing. JavaScript is not run.

How to use

  1. Enter the URL you plan to share and select Analyze.
  2. Check the required tags at the top: title, type, image and URL.
  3. Use “Show image” to load the og:image and confirm it is the right picture.

What this tool does

It lists every og:, article: and fb: meta tag, resolves relative image and URL values to absolute addresses, and checks for the four basic tags defined by the Open Graph protocol plus a description. Missing tags fall back to the page title or description in many apps, which can produce poor previews.

Why it matters

When a link is pasted into Facebook, LinkedIn, Slack, WhatsApp and many other apps, they build the preview from Open Graph tags. A clear title and a correctly sized image make the link far more likely to be clicked.

Common uses

  • Testing blog posts and landing pages before a campaign.
  • Finding pages that still use a default or broken share image.

Tips

  • Use an og:image of at least 1200 × 630 pixels and keep important content away from the edges.
  • Social networks cache previews. After fixing tags, use the network’s own debugger to refresh its cache.

Limitations

  • The page is read as the server sends it. Content that is added later by JavaScript (common on React, Vue or Angular sites and some page builders) is not seen. If results look empty, view the rendered page in your browser and use a paste-HTML tool instead.
  • The preview here is an approximation; each network crops and styles previews differently.

Troubleshooting

  • “Could not connect” or “took too long”: the site may be down, slow, or blocking automated requests. Try again later or check it in your browser.
  • “Certificate could not be verified”: the HTTPS certificate is expired, self-signed or issued for another domain. Visitors’ browsers will show a warning too.
  • “Private or reserved network address”: the address points to a local or internal network, which this tool never contacts.
  • “Limit reached”: checks are rate-limited to keep the service free and to avoid overloading other websites. Wait a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Which Open Graph tags are required?

The Open Graph protocol lists og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url as the basic tags. Adding og:description is strongly recommended.

Why does the image load only when I click?

Loading an image from another website shares your IP address with it, so the preview waits for your permission.
